Spiced Hot Apple Cider Recipe (Stovetop or Slow Cooker)
Servings: 6 | Prep Time: 5 minutes | Cook Time: 20 minutes (or 2 hours in slow cooker)
Ingredients
• 6 cups (1.4 L) fresh apple cider
• 1 orange, sliced into rounds (peel on)
• 3 cinnamon sticks
• 4 whole cloves
• 2 star anise (optional)
• 1/2 tsp. (1 g.) ground nutmeg or a few gratings of fresh
• 1-inch (2.5 cm) piece fresh ginger, sliced
• 1 tbsp. (15 ml.) maple syrup, optional
Directions
1. In a large pot, combine the apple cider, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, and ginger.
2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
3. Lower heat and let it gently simmer uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes.
4. Taste and stir in maple syrup if desired for added sweetness.
5. Strain into mugs and serve hot, garnished with a cinnamon stick or orange slice if desired.
Slow Cooker Option
